Initial Set-up

There are three pre-tapped holes on the main disc of the Spinitoff tool, each of which will accept the threaded post bolt that secure each of three cams.

Use the hex key supplied to move cams and adjust as appropriate. The Spinitoff cams should be tightened such that they can rotate but should not be loose at all, it may be necessary to occasionally tighten during use.

Using the Tool to Remove a Wheel

The Spinitoff tool can be used in conjunction with any half inch bar or torque wrench, although this should be of sufficient length to provide enough leverage force, a minimum of 600mm is recommended. Locate the ˝ in square of the bar or torque wrench into the central square hole of the tool.

Taking the pivot of the cam as the reference point, the tool’s cams have a long and short section. The short ends should all be orientated in the direction that you want the spinner to turn. The cams should be aligned roughly parallel to the direction of rotation.

Go to the wheel and place the tool centrally over the spinner having ensured that the wheel itself is not free to turn. Using the lever rotate the tool on the spinner in the direction you want the spinner to turn. You will notice that as the short ends engage the spinner ear, the long ends are driven down onto the spinner hub, which in turn forces the camber on the face of the short end behind the spinner ear.

As more force is applied the tool will self centre on the spinner and pull itself onto the face of the spinner hub providing the stability to safely apply the full force required to release the spinner.

Ensure that hands won’t be trapped or other body parts damaged if the tool falls off the wheel, this will not occur if care is taken to ensure correct engagement.

The object is to have the tool fully tightened with the bar at the ten or the two o’clock position. It is a matter of personal choice whether you are more comfortable pushing down to apply the force or pulling up.

Where a spinner is particularly stiff you can apply extra pressure to the bar with a slight “bounce”. If the spinner will still not release it is better and more controlled to use a longer bar or extension to apply additional force than to exaggeratedly strain yourself on the bar, which can cause you injury. As the spinner loosens it will be necessary to gently hold the tool against the spinner.

Using the Tool to Attach a Wheel

The ears are set as before in relation to the desired direction of rotation. The use of a torque wrench adjusted to the manufacturer’s setting is recommended. The setting should be reached in stages, typically tighten to 75% of the maximum and then re-set to the desired torque.

As with removal, the tool should be held onto the spinner until it “locks” onto the spinner. As the spinner is tightened it will be necessary to hold it gently against the spinner when reversing the bar against the ratchet.  Ensure all the spinners are fully tightened before driving the car.
